Firehall No. 17

Location: Vancouver, BC

In 2018, the City of Vancouver began the design to replace Fire
Hall No.17. with a new building. The new facility is the first fire hall in North America to pursue Passive House certification. The project is also pursuing LEED v4 Gold and Zero Carbon Building Standard certifications. Fire Hall No.17 is designed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 97% compared to the existing facility with a high-performance envelope, efficient mechanical systems such as geo-exchange heat pumps, and an on-site solar PV array.

The new Fire Hall No.17 project replaces the existing facility with a high-performance and fully electric building that will also act as a city-wide and post-disaster emergency hub. The new fire hall is the first in North America to pursue Passive House certification.
